Back story

I’d visited the Congo in 2009 and was absolutely shocked and upset by what i’d seen, but what stayed with me was what i’d heard. The first hand  story of the impact of sexual violence on a women living in a refugee camp in Goma. It haunted me. Everything i’d read about the Congo couldn’t compared to the words i’d hear there. This lead me to come back to the UK and do what i could to tell more people about what i’d seen and heard there.

Bereft of anything other than a love of running to do this, I decided to throw on my trainers and attempt to run 12 marathons in 12 months to bring awareness of the conflict in the DRC to the UK. After running on roads and treadmills I went back to the DRC to run the first marathon there in an effort to share the stories of women in Congo. With his legs exhausted he then attempted to complete the world’s longest kayak race, paddling over 750km in 70hrs.
